Share our passion for Mexico

About us

BARCOA honors the spirit of Mexico. It’s a space built by hand, with intention behind every detail. Our mission is simple - to honor the passionate producers of agave spirits and provide you with a place to explore and savor the worlds of tequila, mezcal, and other heritage spirits from Mexico.

BARCOA is hidden in plain sight behind XICO - a Latinx and Indigenous art gallery and working artist studio. We're literally a back alley mezcal bar! It's here that you’ll find a cozy patio, the occasional taco truck, and entry into our two-level mezcal paradise. The basement bar is dark, sexy, and cool. (Literally—we keep the AC cranked down there!) Whether you want ice-cold margarita pitchers or a more refined, educational tequila tasting, BARCOA is truly an inclusive space where all are invited to honor the life and love behind agave spirits. Esperamos verte Pronto!

EXPERIENCES

The upstairs Cantina at BARCOA focuses on legendary cantina cocktails, like the Batanga, Las Nalgas Alegres, and of course, the Margarita. The Cantina holds longer hours and takes no reservations. Come as you are and hang out with us anytime.

The downstairs Main Bar at BARCOA is dark, sexy, and offers a higher-end menu with refined cocktails and extensive agave selection. Reservations are highly encouraged.

Of course, to accommodate our friends with accessibility needs, we will provide the downstairs menu in the Cantina anytime, ingredients permitting.

THE SPACE

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as The Hardware Store, the brick building that houses BARCOA and XICO was built in 1928. It’s inscribed as The Knights of Pythias Building on the front facade. Almost everything you see inside the space comes from Mexico - the bars, the tiles, doors, glassware, furniture, and even most of the pots outside. The space was beautifully designed by our friend, Paulina Hassel-Martínez of Studio Victoria, and local architect Rick Swanson. Happy to connect you if needed! They’re awesome.
